What is CrossFit?

CrossFit is Coach-led Training Adapted To Your Fitness Levels and Ability

It produces measurable outcomes, centred on coach-led training. Workouts consist of constantly varied, high-intensity, functional movements, and are most fun and effective amongst friends at your local CrossFit gym.

To learn more about how it is SUITABLE FOR ALL, have a look at this short video

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ttacoOKkerM

“How can it be suitable for all?” I hear you ask ...

... because every movement can be adapted to suit your level of fitness, ability and mobility. As you get fitter, the movements can be made more challenging- that’s why it’s so great to have a qualified and knowledgeable coach to lead the class, keep you safe and ensure you have the best hour of your day in our gym!!

Welcome to your first CrossFit class!

You might be nervous, and that’s normal. You will see movements you have never done before, people doing many different variations of a workout, lots of effort followed by congratulatory high-fives/fist bumps at the end!!

But this is just the start. You will meet a new community of people all rooting for you to achieve your fitness goals, and with time, you will start to see just how strong your body can become.

Here is everything you should expect from your first class:

What to Bring

All you need to bring to your first CrossFit class is a water bottle, comfortable workout clothes, and relatively flat gym shoes. All other equipment you may need for the workout will be provided for you.

What Does a CrossFit Class Look Like?

A CrossFit class is a one-hour group session led by a coach. A typical class looks like:

Workout brief — At the start of class, the group will gather around a TV which has the workout of the day displayed (all classes do the same workout as each other). The coach will talk through the workout, the movements within it, the intended purpose of the workout and what level of intensity it’s designed to elicit as well as options for adapting movements as necessary.

Don’t worry if you don’t understand the movements listed on the board. The coach will walk you through the movements after the brief. Your first class will focus on learning the movement technique.

Warm-up — The coach will lead the class through a warm-up to prepare for the workout.

Skill practice —The coach will lead the class through skill practice, typically related to the movements that appear later in the workout.

Workout prep — Each person will get out the equipment necessary to do the workout.

Workout — The coach starts the clock and everyone does the workout together.

Cleanup — After the workout is over, members congratulate each other in whatever way they see fit (fistbumps, high fives, handshake, sweaty hugs 😊), put away their equipment, and record their scores via the coach.

Is CrossFit for Me??

CrossFit is not for everyone, but it is for anyone

“anyone” may include people who:

·       Are out of shape

·       Are in the best shape of their lives

·       Have never worked out before

·       Have spent their lives working out

·       Have chronic injuries

·       Have no injuries

·       Are very young, very old, and every age in between

·       Have physical disabilities

·       Are short, tall, small, medium, large, overweight, not-v-muscly, v muscly etc!!

The workouts are constantly varied because life demands well-rounded fitness. We don’t just want to equip you to be strong or fast or to have good endurance. We want you to develop in all those areas and more. Plus, the variation keeps the workouts interesting. You’ll never be bored, because there are always new ways to challenge yourself and keep improving.

Additionally….. everything is measurable. This measurability is crucial, as it allows you to track your progress and make sure your training is working. It also allows you to set specific goals and fosters accountability toward those goals. You can test and retest your performance across different benchmark workouts over time to check your progress.

Fitness is simple; here it is in 100 words:
