Our bouldering walls are for anyone who wants to come climbing in West Somerset.
Bouldering is a no-ropes climbing discipline with problems to challenge your mind and body. You should leave your session feeling tired but pumped with endorphins, and with a real sense of achievement.
And it's social! We've got the coffee and cake; you bring your mates! Enjoy a friendly atmosphere with like-minded people.
What to expect when you get here:
80 linear metres / 350 square meters of adult climbing wall
No ropes, no harnesses - this is all about skill, balance and strength
Hundreds of bouldering problems for you to solve
Problems designed for all abilities, from first-timer through to old hand
We change routes regularly to keep it interesting for people who come more often
Dedicated area for children's climbing
Shoe hire - a wide range of shoe sizes available (£3.60)
We have everything you need, you can just bring yourself!
Lockers to keep your valuables secure while you enjoy the wall
A session has no time limit, so you can climb for as long as you want
For organised group bookings (schools, colleges, workplace trips, Scout groups, external instructed sessions etc) please email [email protected] to discuss your needs. For other group bookings, please use the links on the Sign the bouldering waivers page to complete waivers for anyone who is has not been bouldering with us before. You can buy your sessions by using the online booking system.
Facilities for your visit
Chilled water always available free
Our plumbed in water cooler means we have cold water available for you at all times. It's located near the entrance to the gym area. Please ask for a recyclable cup or bring a water bottle.
Hot drinks and vending machine
We have vending machines serving hot drinks and a range of healthy (and not healthy!) snacks to keep you going.
Our bodies can only store enough glycogen for around 90 minutes of exercise so we need to provide more carbohydrate when we exercise. Aim for 30-60g carbohydrate for each hour you train.
Changing rooms and hot individual showers
Come straight from work? Squeezing in your workout before a date?
No problems here at ChalkUp. We have changing rooms and loads of hot water for our individual shower cubicles, so you can clean up after working up a sweat and be ready to go.
We have plenty of off-street parking
We have plenty of parking spaces on site. They are covered by CCTV but it's still at your risk (obviously! It always is!)

CrossFit is for anyone and everyone who wants to become more active in their daily lives. The “functional fitness” aspect of CrossFit makes us more able to lead a fulfilling daily life. It makes us fitter and faster. We deadlift, clean, squat, and press. We do gymnastics with progressions that are accessible to all. We bike, run, swim, jump, and row. We use intensity customised to the individual. CrossFit works for everyone.

We can adjust workouts in weight, intensity, and certain mechanics to scale to the experience and fitness levels of any individual, from a total fitness beginner to an elite competitive CrossFitter.
CrossFit is designed to be constantly varied, meaning everyday is different so you never get bored. All workouts are based on the core movements of life, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, rowing and more.
All of our CrossFit Classes are coach-led and follow a planned progression roughly 60 minutes in duration and follow this basic structure:
A certified coach will guide you through warming up, followed by movement instruction and demonstration for the workout. The Coach will supervise and correct any movement performed by you during the workout.

For those who are following their own programme or don't want to join the CrossFit classes, our Fitness gym offers all the usual kit for you to stay fit.
We have cardio and weight machines as well as the free weights you would expect. You will be able to access the gym between 4am and 11pm daily, after your on-site induction.
We have a membership package for unlimited use of the fitness gym, either monthly or annual payments to suit you.
For those following our CrossFit programme, we offer open gym throughout the week. Drop into the gym outside of class times to work on technique, do additional workouts, or make-up a workout you missed. A coach is often available, ready to observe and correct form if you would like input. The most likely individuals to take advantage of open gym hours are experienced CrossFitters.
Open gym offers individuals an opportunity to continue their CrossFit journey without conforming to regular class schedules.
